African Distillers

African Distillers Limited (Afdis) was registered as P J Joubert Limited in Bulawayo in April 1944, initially importing and distributing spirits, liqueurs and wines. In 1946 it acquired a distillery in Mutare and began local production, renaming itself African Distillers (Rhodesia) Limited. The company became a publicly quoted company in 1951 and has operated on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange since. Afdis is majority owned by Delta Corporation Limited and manufactures, distributes and markets branded wines, ciders and spirits for the Zimbabwean market and for export.

Corporate structure

Afdis is headquartered at Stapleford, near Harare, with production, warehousing and distribution facilities on site. Distribution is supported by six regional depots in Bulawayo, Harare, Kwekwe, Masvingo, Mutare and Victoria Falls, supplemented by countrywide Customer Collection Depots. The company operates as a subsidiary within the Delta Corporation group, governed by a Board comprising two executive directors (Managing Director and Finance Director) and seven non-executive directors, chaired by Delta's Group CEO.
