Invictus Energy Limited was founded by Scott Macmillan as an upstream oil and gas explorer focused on Africa, and in particular on the Cabora Bassa Basin in northern Zimbabwe. The company draws heavily on the collective experience of Energy Africa Ltd, which grew across 12 African countries before Tullow Oil acquired it for US$500 million in 2004; several of Invictus' directors were involved in building that business.

The company's flagship work programme is the Cabora Bassa Project, where it completed the CB21 survey — approximately 1,000 kilometres of 2D seismic acquisition — before moving into drilling. Activities span exploration, field development planning, reserves assessment and commercial valuation.

Invictus is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the code IVZ and holds a secondary listing on the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange, where the counter trades as INV.VX, giving Zimbabwean investors access to the project in US dollars.

Corporate structure

Invictus Energy Limited is headquartered at Level 1, 10 Outram Street, West Perth, Western Australia 6005, and maintains an in-country team in Zimbabwe under a resident Country Manager who oversees corporate, financial and operational activities.

Mangwana Capital is a major shareholder in the company and is represented on the Board by its chairman. The Board combines Australian corporate governance experience with African exploration and production expertise, supported by a technical management team covering exploration, drilling and finance.
