The company was incorporated as General Beltings (Private) Limited on 24 June 1968, with its original Donnington, Bulawayo factory established by Balatros GmbH of Hamburg, Germany, initially manufacturing products under the Balatros brand. It acquired the SABS 1173 product mark in 2000, and in July 2005 General Beltings merged with Cernol Chemicals (Private) Limited; the combined holding company was renamed GB Holdings Limited on 6 August 2007.
