Cassava Smartech Zimbabwe Limited was founded in 2018 by Strive Masiyiwa as the fintech arm demerged from Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, and listed on the ZSE on 18 December 2018 by introduction, debuting at a valuation of roughly US$3.8 billion under the code CSZL. The demerger separated Cassava's fintech businesses (including EcoCash mobile money and Steward Bank) from Econet's core telecoms operations. Trading was briefly suspended by the ZSE in October 2021 for failure to publish financial results on time, and lifted 18 days later once the company complied. Effective 25 February 2022, the company changed its name to EcoCash Holdings Zimbabwe Limited (ticker EHZL). In April 2024, EcoCash Holdings concluded a scheme of reconstruction transferring its fintech businesses – EcoCash (Private) Limited, Vaya Technologies, Econet Insurance, Econet Life and MARS Zimbabwe – to Econet Wireless Holdings Zimbabwe Limited. The listed shell was then renamed TN CyberTech Investments Holdings Limited (ticker TNCI), with the Registrar of Companies and the ZSE approving the change of name on 9 and 11 July 2025 respectively.
Corporate structure
Following the 2024 reconstruction, TN CyberTech Investments Holdings Limited (the ZSE-listed entity originally floated as Cassava Smartech) no longer directly holds the EcoCash, Vaya, Econet Insurance, Econet Life or MARS businesses, which now sit under Econet Wireless Holdings Zimbabwe Limited. The company's current business segments are reported as Mobile Money Services, Digital Banking Services, InsurTech Services and Other Services, reflecting residual and legacy interests as the group repositions under its new name and strategic direction.
