Willdale was founded in 1957 in Harare and operated for decades as a subsidiary of Mashonaland Holdings Limited before becoming a loss-making unit of that group. It was demerged from Mashonaland Holdings and listed independently on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange in March 2003 under ticker WILD. Brian Mataruka was appointed the company's new Chairman effective 1 April 2025, replacing Cleopas Makoni who retired from the board, amid a broader board reshuffle as the firm worked through financial losses.
